We have had many trips to Chamonix which sits at the base of Mont Blanc in the French Alps.

We normally say at Les Balcons Du Savoy which has great furnished apartments.

Fly into Geneva in Switzerland and get a ride to Chamonix from Philippe Rochaix at Alp Taxi Rochaix +33 (0)4 50 54 00 48. Philippe has always been ultra-reliable for us, is very friendly and speaks English well.

And for the best skiing experience off-piste, we have used Alain Geloen, one of the area's most knowledgeable guides. You can also go with him all over the world rock climbing in the summer months.

In the last few years we have spent a number of trips to Fripp Island in South Carolina. In fact, this is the location for our home away from homes.

Beautiful beaches, golf and good food. Oh, and not a lot of people either.

The island is at the end of a line of islands, just past the Hunting Island State Park, where the picture of Simon was taken (in the summer 1999 at age 3).

For more information, you can check out Fripp Island Resort.

We have also been to the South Pacific a number of times - Simon went twice before he was even 2 years old!

We have been going to the island of Moorea, near Tahiti, since the 1980's, to the Club Bali Hai on beautiful Cook's Bay.

We also had a great trip to the United Kingdom, in the summer of 2001, taking in London, the South East as well as the majestic countryside and coast of Mid Wales including the Barmouth area and Snowdonia National Park.

We spent a week in the London area and the South East. From there, we traveled to the Mid-Wales coast where we stayed for another week. We were joined by my high-school friends Mary Turpin and Sian Lloyd Jones. Mary brought her family of Joe and Nia, plus her husband Graham came for one night. Then it was on to Mary and Graham's farm in Tregynon, near Newtown for a few days before returning the the London area to cap it off.
