We found that the best view of the track was from the nosebleed seats in the main grandstand, west end, section S/T, which is about level with the line demarcation of the pit exit. Here Bazza excitedly awaits the finish and victor in GT for the #66 Racers' Group Porsche GT3R 50 laps from the end (for the #27 Doran Lista car) is the fans' view of the #68 Racer's Group Porsche GT3R. This is lap 666, though the scoreboard doesn't show that high a first digit so they turned it off. The #66 car is shown in 6th place overall, a late stop simply for a driver change allowing the #22 SRP II Nissan Lola, winner of SRP II class, to get ahead of them. The #27 Doran Lista Judd Dallara is driven home for the victory. Time of race is 24:00:51, distance completed 716 laps, a new record, and the margin of victory 6 laps. The Jaguar #03, which is the GTS class winner, is the same car used in the TransAm series, except it has a 6.3 liter Ford engine in it. Here the car is seen on its way to the post-race tech inspection. After not getting underway untile 1:40pm on Saturday, 25 laps adrift of the leader, the #38 Champion Porsche Lola SRP comes in 4th overall. Kevin Buckler lead the Racers' Group #66 to 7th overall and first in the GT class. To show how unselfish a team owner Kevin is, look at the fact that he got out of the car with 10 minutes to go, which cost them 6th place overall, and let Michael Schrom finish the race off and take the victory! Left: Buckler goes on the prowl, looking for a victim of his champagne. Right: Didier Theys looking quite fresh after leading the #27 team to the pole position and race win. Kevin Buckler is all smiles and the champagne is still not all gone. Notice the Rennlist credentials on the young man! Two more of the GT class winning #66 Racers' Group Porsche GT3R drivers: On the left is Jorg Bergmeister and on the right is Timo Bernhard. These drivers were supplied by the Porsche factory to help the Racers' group effort. |
